Alain LE NOST was born in 1934 in Guingamp (Brittany) in an old Breton family of Trégor (“the sea country”) and Argoat (“the forest country”). He began to paint when he was seventeen in 1952. He met Armand DROUANT, a well known personality of the world of Art. It was the beginning of his vocation as an artist and training as a painter, painting becoming his only means of living. On the advice of Armand DROUANT the young painter stays in Paris in 1954 at the Academy of the “Grande Chaumière” (Yves Brayer studio) then in 1959 at the Academy of the “Section d’Or” (Souverbie studio). In 1989 he got a registration for the name " Essentialist Painting ™ " designed to characterize his painting. His evolution drives him today towards a gestural spontaneity. His sources of inspiration are varied. He is above all a "bard" of his native Brittany,  which he contemplates with a ceaselessly renewed eye, but his themes are universal: the American West, the undersea world, Spain, Greece....
